What we do, and how we do it
A deck is a structure before it is an outdoor room. Footings have to go below the frost line — which in this part of Illinois is deep — the ledger has to be flashed and lagged into real framing rather than nailed to siding, and the joist spacing has to match the decking you are actually installing. Get those right and the surface is the easy part. Get them wrong and no amount of stain saves it.
We build new decks, replace decking and railings on sound frames, rebuild failed structures, and add stairs and landings. We also strip, sand, brighten and re-stain existing decks that have gone gray. Railings can be pressure-treated, composite, or wood posts and rails with black metal balusters — the look in the photo on this page — which keeps the sightline into the yard open.

Design and quote
We look at the yard, the door height, the sightlines and the drainage, then price the frame, the decking, the railing and the stairs so you can see where the money goes.

Footings and frame
Footings dug below frost line, ledger flashed and fastened into framing, then beams and joists set at the spacing the decking requires.

Deck and railing
Boards laid with consistent gapping and fasteners in line, then posts, rails and balusters set plumb and to height.

Stairs, finish and cleanup
Stairs and landings built to even rise, the site cleared of offcuts and fasteners, and staining scheduled once the lumber has dried enough to take it.
